An often overlooked bonus of attending an acting school or other similar program is the opportunity to learn from special guest speakers. There are already some really fantastic instructors out there for students to learn from, but some schools will also bring in other industry professionals to do a talk and answer some questions. In September, Vancouver Film School invited Ron Clements in to talk to students. Ron Clements is both a storyteller and a filmmaker who works for none other than Disney studios! Read on to learn more about this great opportunity Vancouver Film School students were treated to.
THE BENEFITS OF GUEST SPEAKERS
There are a lot of great reasons why students benefit from listening to an industry professional guest speaker, including:
-They have the unique chance to ask questions of someone from their chosen field.
-They will be given insight into the current state of their desired field.
-They will be offered a specialized perspective they might not otherwise be exposed to.
Getting to listen to guest speakers is one of the great things about acting school that potential entertainers who didn’t attend a program would not get to experience.
RON CLEMENTS’ PREVIOUS PROJECTS
Ron Clements first became interested in the art of animation after he watched Pinocchio at the young age of nine. He knew that, in order to be able to pursue this passion, he would need to change locations. So, he moved to California after graduation and got a job at the popular cartoon studio, Hanna-Barbera. While he worked there, he also took evening classes at the Art Center. After a lot of hard work and dedication, Clements applied to Disney’s Talent Development Program and landed a job that led to some truly amazing projects, many of which we are sure will be familiar to you!
Some of Ron’s Disney credits include classics like Pete’s Dragon; Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Too; Pete’s Dragon; The Rescuers; and The Black Cauldron. He has also worked on some of the most popular Disney movies, like The Princess and the Frog, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Great Mouse Detective, and Moana.
The chance to learn from and ask questions of Ron Clements was surely an unforgettable experience for Vancouver Film School’s students!
RON CLEMENTS’ VISIT TO VANCOUVER FILM SCHOOL
Ron specifically visited students who are participating in Vancouver Film School’s animation programs. His talk started off with the progression of his forty year career and his experiences with big names like Robin Williams. Students were also treated to valuable information about what goes on at production studios and how collaborations in the industry work. His enthusiasm around creating films that connect with their viewers was undoubtedly inspiring for up and coming animators to hear.
The students who attended the talk were given the opportunity to provide feedback regarding their experience, and their gratitude was made very clear!
